General Business Guidance and Consultation

For many years our office has been a resource for the transportation world, from the initial organization of business entity and establishment of state and federal operating authorities through day-to-day operations and business succession planning. We also pride ourselves on our extensive contacts with transportation experts who provide support services to the industry.

Freight Charges and Cargo Claims Litigation (Carmack Amendment)

We have extensive experience in handling cargo claims, including loss, damage, and shortage of high value products, collection of freight charges, Carmack Amendment issues, and broad-based commercial litigation.

Federal and State Regulatory and Safety Compliance

Our extensive contacts in the transportation industry allow us to support clients on safety and insurance issues, including hours-of-service, drug testing, hazardous materials transportation. We have assisted our clients in upgrading their federal motor carrier safety ratings issued by FMCSA and have been able to avoid FMCSA and PUCO alleged safety violations. We work with our clients on federal and state safety enforcement.

Asset Protection

On behalf of our motor carrier clients, we have established independent business entities to separate hard assets and real estate from the operating company in order to maximize asset protection while allowing clients to take advantage of Ohio motor carrier tax exemptions.

International Trade

In the face of growing cross-border trade, our office has registered trucking companies with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Canada Customs Agency for the import and export of goods into and from Canada, resolved compliance issues with customs regulations of both countries, including electronic filing programs such as PARS and ACE.

Underground Storage Tank Regulations Compliance

We advise clients on underground storage tank regulation compliance and represent them before the appropriate federal and state agencies in enforcement proceedings involving USTs, including the Ohio Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR), the Ohio Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Release Compensation Board, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). We also represent convenience store clients in liquor permit matters and violations.

Minority / Disadvantaged Business Enterprises

We have been successful in obtaining Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification from Ohio Department of Transportation and Minority Business Enterprise certification with Department of Administrative Services, enabling clients to obtain contracts available only to minority-owned or otherwise disadvantaged businesses.
